SWANSBORO -  Productivity from young players paved the way for Swansboro to top Jacksonville in the season-opener for both teams.

"I was really pleased how the younger girls played," said Pirates head coach Jim Sheehan. "We have a unique team of one senior, one junior and the rest of the top six today were all sophomores.

"But this is a pretty competitive group, we just have to continue to get better."

Jordan Barham recorded a win in three sets while Nicole Newman, Lindsey Yingling, Rachael Lusinski and Katy Laws each won in straight sets for the Pirates. The team of Provost and Barham, the squad of Newman and Yingling, and the team of Allie Clark and Naime Tormes each won at doubles.

Haley Vatcher won her singles match for JHS.
