Jacksonville football loses in first round

ROCKY MOUNT - Rocky Mount's Brian Goodwin set the tone right from the start. Goodwin's 98-yard kickoff return for the opening score led No. 1 seed Rocky Mount to a 42-7 victory Saturday night over No. 16 seed Jacksonville in the first round of the NCHSAA 3-A state playoffs.
The game was moved to Saturday due to inclement weather Friday night. The Gryphons (12-0) will move on to face Oxford Webb this Friday.
Dayton Campos' 56-yard touchdown run was the only score for the Cardinals (2-9).
